It’s the End of the World as We Know It…

So, according to Harold Camping, the world will end at 6:00 this evening. (Which time zone was that??) This man has apparently made similar claims before and has been wrong, but people still believe he speaks the truth. Why? Why are people so ready to believe what one man – one human – will say about the end times, but not actually believe what the Bible says? God told us in His Word that we shall not know the day nor the hour, not even the angels or His Son could know…only the Father alone. So why does Harold Camping have the audacity to claim this knowledge and why are others so willing to believe him over God’s Word?
My theory…the human is much more willing to believe in something he can actually see, something tangible that he can grasp onto, rather than something that he must simply trust, have faith, will happen. But isn’t that exactly what we are called to do? To have faith, to serve God, to love unconditionally, to be sure that our hearts and our minds are prepared no matter when it happens? That’s what I read in God’s Word. Maybe Harold Camping has a different version of the Bible than I do.

Well, should Harold Camping be right or wrong does not in the end matter to me, because I know that I am a child of God, that Jesus reigns supreme in my heart. So, if it is the end of the world as we know it…I feel fine!
