The Voice New Testament: Revised & Updated is a new version for a new age. It reminds me of The Message (by Eugene H. Peterson) in how it reads much more like a story. Yet, I enjoyed the format of The Voice even more than that of The Message. It took me a moment to understand why it seemed so different, though, because I tried diving right in to the Word, randomly cracking open to the Gospel of Matthew. Some of the style choices I encountered there threw me off a bit. So, I did what I should have done in the first place – I turned to the introduction. There I found what italicized words and various other style choices were intended to convey. After finding the explanations, The Voice came even more to life. The collaboration between translators, writers, artists, etc., makes for a beautiful rendition of God’s Holy Word to enhance your understanding of the Scriptures. If you are desiring to lose yourself in the Word of God, to feel like the Word is talking to you as a Friend would – without the intrusiveness of footnotes, cross-references, word studies, etc. – The Voice New Testament: Revised & Updated is the version for you.
