Thirst of Steel by Ronie Kendig

Thirst of Steel

About the book:

Dismantled centuries ago, the sword of Goliath is still rumored to thirst for its enemies’ blood. Cole “Tox” Russell only wants to begin his life with Haven Cortes, but he must first complete a final mission: retrieve that sword and destroy the deadly Arrow & Flame Order.

The AFO, however, is determined to claim the sword. Wielding their father’s life over Tzivia and Ram Khalon, they threaten to expose Ram’s long-held and dangerous secret while demanding Tzivia locate the sword. With the Wraith team slowly being torn apart, things only worsen when Mercy Maddox, a new operative, emerges with the stunning news that the sword is tied to both Ram’s secret and a string of unsolved serial murders.

Tox, Ram, and the others are forced to set aside fear and anger to focus only on the enemy. No matter the cost, Wraith must stop or take the enemy down with them.

My review:

Ronie Kendig definitely knows how to wrap up a trilogy! This third and final installment of the Tox Files is non-stop and filled with just about every feel you can imagine. Secrets are revealed, questions are answered, hearts (especially mine!) are broken, all while the plot keeps you flipping pages so fast, you risk paper cuts (or for your e-reader to be unable to keep up!).

Tox and the crew may be separated, but their bonds grow stronger throughout the book. They trust each other, even when it seems that they are turning away from the right path. What an awesome picture of true friendship and faithfulness!

I have so enjoyed reading The Tox Files, this military-action-thriller series with a supernatural twist, and am sad to see it end. However, I can’t wait to see what Ronie Kendig has for us next and plan to savor her fantasy series (Abiassa’s Fire) in the meantime 🙂

Many thanks to Bethany House Publishers and NetGalley for the digital copy of this book for review purposes. I was not required to give a positive review. All opinions are my very own! 🙂

Crown of Souls by Ronie Kendig

crown of souls

From the book:

When you stare into the abyss, it also stares into you.

The bullet that rips into Cole “Tox” Russell was never meant to kill. It was meant to send a message. Only one man is skilled enough to have taken the shot, a rogue Special Forces operator who vanished months ago.

Alec King is perhaps the only person as skilled as Tox, and he’s out for justice. Furious with orders that got his men killed, he intends to make those responsible pay. And he insists Tox join him, believing they are the same breed of soldier.

Afraid his old friend could be right, Tox battles a growing darkness within himself as he and his team are forced into another deadly encounter with antiquity. It appears Alec is harnessing the power of a mysterious artifact, a crown that history has linked to some of the worst slaughters in humanity. Racing to stop Alec before his vengeance is unleashed, Tox must fight the monster without becoming one.

My Review:

Ronie Kendig has done it again—written a book I couldn’t put down! I really enjoyed reading the prequel novella to this series, The Warrior’s Seal (which is free on Kindle, if you’d like to get to know Tox and his crew), and I was impressed with the first Tox Files novel, Conspiracy of Silence (you can check out my review here). But Crown of Souls surpassed them in my eyes.

Cole “Tox” Russell has deepened even more as a character, torn between love and justice. And the plot was full of so many twists, turns, and whaaaats??, that I couldn’t help staying up way past my bedtime to keep turning the pages. And did I regret it the next morning? Absolutely not! The read was definitely worth the bags under my eyes!

With shades of some of my favorite suspense authors, like Steve Berry and David Baldacci, Kendig has crafted a series that I want to keep reading (and re-reading!). Here’s hoping a new installment of the Tox Files comes soon!

Conspiracy of Silence by Ronie Kendig

From the book: “Four years after a tragic mission decimated his team, Cole “Tox” Russell has been disavowed by the United States. And that’s fine — he just wants to be left alone. But when a dormant, centuries-old disease is unleashed, Tox is lured back into action.

“Tox and his former Special Forces team regroup to work with FBI deception expert, Kasey Cortes, and fiery archaeologist, Tzivia Khalon, to search the globe for answers — and a cure. As the mission leads from one continent to another, it becomes clear they’re not just fighting a plague but battling an ancient secret society whose true goals remain hidden.

“With time running out and the threat of a global pandemic rising, Tox and his team realize their sole chance might be to reach back through centuries of silence to find the only answer that can save them all.”

If you like reading Clive Cussler or Don Brown, you’ll certainly enjoy digging into Ronie Kendig’s latest thriller, Conspiracy of Silence, book 1 of “The Tox Files.” Tox and his team are well-crafted, battling against both the forces of evil and their own complicated pasts, presents, and futures. The action is absolutely non-stop, and the biblical history is deftly woven into excitement of the storyline.

I could not put this one down! I thoroughly enjoyed the story and truly appreciated the honor and respect Ms. Kendig showed for the men (and women) of our Special Forces, reminding us of all that they sacrifice for the country they love.

Pick this one up… you’ll find your heart racing right along with Tox and his team, as they dodge flaming arrows and deadly toxins. *Note: there is a free, e-book prequel to this novel, The Warrior’s Seal, available on Amazon. The story does refer back to things that happened in the prequel, so you might consider starting with it!
