The Shock of Night by Patrick W. Carr

Everything is going right for Willet Dura – he’s the king’s reeve, he’s been elevated to the position of a minor noble of the realm, and he’s been promised the hand of the woman he loves. But while investigating a strange murder, something happens to Willet that changes everything. He doesn’t know who to trust, but he must fight to maintain the life he’s always desired and to keep the powers of darkness from taking over the kingdom he calls home.

I love losing myself in the worlds Patrick Carr creates (In fact, I almost cancelled my birthday lunch, because I was so caught up in this book!). Carr’s characters are fully-fleshed and rich with idiosyncrasies. Every time you think you’ve gotten it all figured out, Carr unveils another facet, drawing you deeper into his world and making you long for more. The Shock of Night is the first book in The Darkwater Saga, and I’m very much looking forward to the next installment.

I definitely recommend Carr’s The Shock of Night. Pick up a copy as soon as you can!

Many thanks to Bethany House and NetGalley for the free copy of this novel for review purposes. I was not required to give a positive review. All opinions are my very own! 🙂

Extra, extra: I started this journey with Willet Dura by gobbling up a copy of By Divine Right, an introductory novella to The Darkwater Saga. It was equally excellent and I’d highly recommend you start with it to understand more of about Willet. It’s currently free on Amazon and you can grab your copy by clicking on the picture below.

    • Definitely! Since you liked his first series, I know you’ll like where he’s going with this one. Be sure to grab the novella – By Divine Right – while it’s still free (not sure if it’s a limited time offer or not…better safe!). Enjoy!!
